Description |
The Librarian I performs professional librarian work, with responsibilities in the areas of information services—including reference and readers advisory—and working directly with patrons. The incumbent should be knowledgeable about working with a diverse youth population that has varying degrees of literacy and comfort with technology, and wide-ranging information needs and interests. Reports to the Head of Youth Services. Supervision may be exercised over the work of paraprofessional and clerical staff, as well as volunteers. Performs related work as required. |
Minimum qualifications |
Master’s Degree in Library Science from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following accepted education practices (some universities have renamed their programs and no longer designate the degree as a Master’s in Library Science—contact the New York State Library’s Division of Library Development for assistance) |
Special requirement |
Eligibility for a New York State Public Librarian’s professional certificate at time of application; possession of certificate at time of appointment and for duration of employment |
